ANSWER KEY — teacher copy
To read a long word, split it. A compound word splits between its two small words: cup·cake. When two consonants sit in the middle, split between them: rab·bit, nap·kin.

Examples: popcorn → pop·corn  ·  kitten → kit·ten  ·  cactus → cac·tus

Draw a line where the word splits, then write the two syllables.

1. goldfish goldfish gold·fish
2. puppet puppet pup·pet
3. muffin muf·fin
4. happen hap·pen
5. snowman snowman snow·man
6. sudden sud·den
